International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)
At the end of the first two years of their High School Programme, students will sit for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).
The IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14-16 years old. It develops successful students, prepares them for their next step in education and equips them with skills for immediate employment. The IGCSE is provided by the University of Cambridge International Examination and is recognized by universities and employers worldwide as a mark of quality signifying clear evidence of a student’s ability.
Cambridge International AS and A Levels
After completing the IGCSE, students can study Cambridge International AS and A levels. Cambridge International AS and A Levels are internationally benchmarked qualifications providing excellent preparation for university education. They are part of the Cambridge Advanced stage and require two years of study to complete.
Cambridge International AS and A Level qualifications are widely recognised and valued by universities and employers alike. Some US universities give up to a year's credit as a result. Every year, thousands of Cambridge International A Level students gain places at good universities worldwide - including the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
Global Assessment Certificate (GAC)
Alternatively, students may elect to complete the Global Assessment Certificate (GAC) after finishing the IGCSE. Students must meet academic and age criteria to progress to the GAC and can also chose the GAC after completing the Cambridge International AS Level.
The GAC is developed by the ACT Education Solutions, Limited (AES), which aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge to gain entry into university programmes in one of many well known universities in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States of America as well as various other overseas locations. In addition, students are able to sit for the ACT (American College Test) Assessment, the leading college entrance examination in the United States of America. The programme is accredited as a Certificate IV University Foundation Programme through the Australian National Qualifications Framework.
GAC programme is conducted at SIS@Saigon South in Ho Chi Minh City and SIS@Cau Giay in Hanoi. GAC Graduates from our Singapore International School have successfully entered International Universities such as University of California (USA), Utah State University (USA), University of Iowa (USA), RMIT University (Australia & Vietnam), Macquarie University (Australia), Monash College (Australia), University of Zurich (Switzerland) and others.
The GAC curriculum focuses on developing and improving your English language proficiency and consists of English, Mathematics, Computing, Business, Science and Social Science supported by systematic study of learning skills for success at university. In addition to this you will undertake test preparation for the ACT® test and International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) preparation, and you also have the option of taking an additional mathematics unit during Level III.
The GAC consists of three levels of study, and a fast-track option is available for those who meet the specified entry requirements.
