The Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary School 2009 (APMOPS)
Update date: (16-05-2009)

The KinderWorld Group (Vietnam) will be co-ordinating with Hwa Chong Institution (Singapore) to co-host the Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools 2009 (APMOPS) for students grade 6 and 7 for the first time in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Opportunities to study in and gain exposure to an international environment are dreams of many Vietnamese students and their parents. This academic year, for the very first time, students grade 6 and 7 will have the chance to participate in an international mathematical competition through the Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS) 2009 organized in Vietnam by KinderWorld Group in co-ordination with Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore.

KinderWorld has more than 20 years of experience in education from Pre-Nursery up to and including University Preparation. The APMOPS competition is part of KinderWorld’s effort to enhance education quality and global access for the future generations of Vietnam. The KinderWorld Group has worked directly with some of the most prestigious secondary schools in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City to select and nominate brilliant students grade 6 and 7 to participate in this competition. Though being introduced and organized for the first time in Viet Nam, APMOPS has attracted about 130 participants from Ha Noi and more than 200 participants from Ho Chi Minh City. In the coming years, the number of participants is expected to increase significantly. Last year, 6456 participants took part from all over the Asia Pacific region.

The APMOPS competition includes 2 Rounds fully delivered in English. Round 1 involves 30 mathematical multiple choices questions and is completed in 2 hours. Round 2 involves a 2-hour Olympiad format of 6 problem sums. Round 1 will be conducted on Saturday, 25th April 2009 at UniWorld International School, Block C3 (NT III B) Ciputra Hanoi International City, Hanoi and at the Singapore International School, Trung Son Residential Area, Ho Chi Minh City.

Contestants with the highest results in the Asia Pacific region in Round 1 (top 10%) will be invited to Hwa Chong Institution in Singapore to sit for Round 2 on Saturday, 30th May 2009. At Round 2, contestants will compete with the top mathematical geniuses from Asia Pacific. The Prize Presentation Ceremony will be held in Singapore at Hwa Chong Institution on the same day amid considerable publicity and media coverage. 40 individual prizes will be awarded to the 40 best contestants of Round 2.
