Once again the Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS) 2012 will be co-hosted in Vietnam by KinderWorld Education Group and Hwa Chong Institution of Singapore. APMOPS was first held in Vietnam in 2009 and in 2010, two Vietnamese students achieved 11th and 12th places in the final round out of 7728 regional participants. In 2011, Vietnam had 13 students who received Platinum Certificates, 16 students received Gold Certificates, 31 students received Silver Certificates and 57 students received Bronze Certificates.

Hwa Chong Institution is a premier independent school with a rich history of 90 years. The school has the highest Oxford University and Cambridge University admission rate in Singapore and has the most number of awardees of the President’s Scholarship.

The Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS) is a prestigious event whereby students from countries in the Asia-Pacific region including Australia, India, Singapore, China, New Zealand and Vietnam get the opportunity to interact and compete with top mathematics geniuses.

Over the past three APMOPS competitions in Vietnam, KinderWorld has sponsored Return Air Tickets for the thirty most excellent students who were invited to Singapore to participate in the Final Invitation Round. KinderWorld will again sponsor Return Air Tickets to Singapore for the best students from Vietnam to participate in the Invitation Round.

Students who are among the top qualifiers from the First Round will be invited to participate in the Final Invitation Round and Prize Presentation Ceremony to be held on Saturday 26 May 2012 at Hwa Chong Institution in Singapore.

A. First Round

1. Date of Competition: Saturday 14 April 2012

3. Eligibility:

Year 7 level: Students must be born between 1 July 1999 and 31 December 1999
Year 6 level: Students must be born after 1 Jan 2000

4. Registration:

Deadline of submitting the Registration Form and Fee: 20 March 2012
Registration fee: 600,000VND/ student
KinderWorld’s Management Board will consider covering the Registration Fee for students who meet the following:

    • Have scores in Mathematics in the nearest term equal to or higher than 9.0 and English equal to or higher than 8.5; and
    • Are confirmed in writing by the Ward People’s Committee where the students are currently residing as poor or disadvantaged students.

To be considered, students are required to submit the following documents:

    • A copy of the Academic Transcript of the nearest term; and
    • A Confirmation Letter from the Authority where the students are currently residing as poor or disadvantaged students.

5. Prizes for Round 1:

The top ten students from each examination centre: North Examination Centre (Hanoi), Centre Examination Centre (Da Nang) and South Examination Centre (Binh Duong and Vung Tau) will also get special awards presented by KinderWorld.

B. Invitation Round

1. Date of Competition: Saturday 26 May 2012

2. Venue: Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore

3. Eligibility:

Top qualifying participants from the First Round will be invited by Hwa Chong Institution for the Invitation Round in Singapore. Each qualifying participant will require a current and valid passport.

4. Sponsorship:

KinderWorld Education Group will sponsor the 10 top ranked participants with return air fares to Singapore.
All expenses in Singapore including accommodation, food and local tours will be sponsored by Hwa Chong Institution.
All other expenses such as passport and personal allowance are not included.

5. Prizes for the Invitation Round:

A total of 40 Individual Prizes will be awarded by Hwa Chong Institution to the top 40 participants in the Asia Pacific region in the Invitation Round. Prizes are as follows:
1st Prize : S$1000 and 1 medal
2nd Prize : S$800 and 1 medal
3rd Prize : S$500 and 1 medal
4th – 5th Prize : S$300 and 1 medal
6th – 10th Prize : S$100 and 1 medal
11th – 40th Prize : 1 medal per award

6. Announcement of Winners:

The winners of the Invitation Round will be announced on Saturday 26 May 2012 at the Prize Presentation Ceremony in Singapore.
